As only a few RDBMS API's in php support prepared queries they are relying on the prepare emulation of DB/MDB[2] to handle this. However that obviously adds overhead. With the solution I suggested it should be possible to remove this overhead using your concept of external files. Thanks a lot for the remarks. They would make SQLHat better in all cases. I would be happy to PEAR-ify it without matter if it becomes part of PEAR or not. In fact I didn't even know that MDB existed and now it's kind of exciting.PEAR does not allow for GPL Licensed scripts in its repository. For good reasons. But is this that critical for the package, or could Kamen maybe live with LGPL instead? However, I'm unsure if we need another independent SQL-package for this. Sure the source would need to be PEAR-ified a "bit" more :-) But e.g. the viewer uses it's own sort of minimal "database abstraction" (which could use MDB), it uses a LexAnalyser which could maybe also be done with Greg's parser soon, ... So if everything is PEAR-ified, shortened and generalised a bit further, I wonder if it might fit into one of the existing database-packages, since there are alreay quite a few.
What I am interested most is your opinion shouldn't SQLHat be rewritten as a PHP extension? I mean I can rewrite it in C and apply to make it part of PECL. In that case the best place for the SQLHatViewer would be PEAR and I can license it with any of yourSee my comments. I think using my suggested solution would not require it to be rewritten as a C extension.
licenses. Actually the only thing that I found concerning the licenses was the manual where it is just said that you recommend PHP, LGPL and BSD. It doesn't say that you don't allow GPL.we recently clarified this point and it should be updated on the page tonight. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
