Now I see there has unfortunately also been a crossposting by Laurent
of this message to pear-dev? Well, it wasn't listed in the To-header
:-((
Just to inform folks on pear-dev who follow this thread I also
crosspost my two mails here now.

Subject: [PEAR-QA] Discussion on "recommendation for color representation"

Dear PEARs,
it's now already been a while that the first version of the
"recommendation for color representation" found it's way into the
PEAR manual. Unfortunately there haven't been much comments on this
yet - and what's more interestsing: There have been even a few
comments (on IRC etc.) which were never published.
One part of this discussion was a talk I had with Pierre some while
ago on IRC. We discussed what might be a clean way to integrate CMYK-
representation etc. to the existing recommendation. In RGB(A) most
people use ranges 0..255 for the color-channels. However, with
different color representations they are more commonly representated
as percent (afaik in CYMK also). Pierre said that it might be a good
idea to choose a common representation / range for all color-formats.
He proposed to take a range of 0..1 in float. This makes sense, since
it also allows for far more fine-grained values etc. and that range
can be used for all color-representations (even the 0..100% etc.).
What do you think about that change? The recommendation exists but
afaik hasn't been implemented in a PEAR package so far. But as soon
as Image_Color might maybe soon get a new release etc. it would be
good to have a "stable" recommendation, and not discuss it again in a
few month.
Please post your comments in this thread! Would there be a volunteer
(Laurent?) to evaluate/comment the changes to the recommendation and
after a while change the recommendation accordingly?
I'm currently very short of time due to work - so I can't take care
of either the recommendation nor Image_Color myself.
Regards,
Stefan
