Christian Wenz (http://pear.php.net/user/wenz) has commented on the proposal for Networking::GeoIP. Comment: Nice proposal! Some thoughts: * maybe there is a way to combine your efforts and those of Net_Geo. Last time I tried the public service Net_Geo was using had some problems but this should be resolved by now. These classes are *very* different in how they work & the level of information. GeoIP is a pretty specific service, I don't think there's a lot of benefit in rolling it up into an uber-abstract "geographical info class", because honestly -- if people wanna use GeoIP they're gonna know they wanna use GeoIP. That said, I'll take some more look at the Net_Geo class. I got lost wading what seemed to be a lot of weird caching stuff -- must have been HTTP page caching or something.
* is there a way to make the class compatible with PHP4? There's already a Maxmind version of GeoIP for PHP4. I use PHP5 and I use this package, so no :) there's really no way.Hans
