Sure, but on the other hand it will also take weeks or months until new
packages get stable enough to rely on them!
PEAR is part of PHP, so if PEAR doesn't embrace PHP v5, who should? PEAR
should of cause IMHO actively support PHPv5 by doing active development!
This way a lot of buggers would be found and fixed, and in the end PHPv5
would become stable so much earlier then if we do nothing. It's my
impression that most people on this list have almost no experience with
PHPv5. If those people at least tried using PHPv5, they would surely run
into unknown bugs, which they could report. I for one have at least reported
a few bugs, and that's probably much more than the majority of the PEAR
developers, so please stop complaining about lack of stability, and start
participating!

That's for sure - especially if nobody shows any interest in it! And it will
of cause also take forever (like months, and probably a *lot* of months)
before any of the PHPv5 only packages become stable enough for production
environments seriously. We have so start at some point, and the longer we
wait, the longer we will have to wait for the packages to become stable.
Why should everybody have to wait forever simply because the majority of
ISP's doesn't upgrade af once? At least that should stall development; it
should only reduce the number of users.

So what? The package wouldn't exist anyway! And until the packages exist,
the bugs will properly not be found...

Why not? Why is PHPv4 compatibility now such a bad thing?
