i really don't think it's cool to have more than one smtp
thingie in pear and php. i also really doubt the advantage of
writing it in C (eg will it work on win32?).
perl has many dozends date/time functions in CPAN, does
it make perl easier or messier? (freedom of choice doesn't
always make things better):
i really don't think that something that can be implemented
"as-good" in php should be written in C and put under the PHP
umbrella.
i'm taking this back to pear-dev as i think this discussion
belongs there. (as there is no "private" stuff in this mail i
assume you don't mind)
