I don't know what you meant, but what I meant is that Metabase is the
first PHP database abstraction layer to emulate sequences with
auto-increment table fields in databases that do not support real
sequences. After that other PHP abstraction layers borrowed the idea.
Last time that I looked neither JDBC nor ODBC had anything like that. I
even could not figure how to get the auto-increment value after an
insert in JDBC nor ODBC.
