I think that the majority of PEAR developers just copy and paste the license (as I do) but unfortunately copyright issue is a bit more delicate.Right. I'm not personally very picky about copyright issues, but I'm used to the GPL, and in this area the fact that you work is properly copyrighted is a required step for it to get "copylefted". And, AFAIK, surrendering ownership is in opposition with opensource or free software concepts, whatever you prefer to call it. You are the one who decide to make it free software, and you're allowed to do this because you are the actual owner of the work.
The copyright should be retained by the author but, by keeping an acceptable license, the extension wouldn't enter into conflict with PHP.
So when you use a license you normally change the copyright holder e.g. http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php (acceptable under PEAR standards, BSD template requires you to change the copyright holder). Is this OK then to use the PHP license and change the copyright mention ? Is the RFC (thanks Daniel) going to talk about that ? -- og
