Hey Folks:
As you probably know, PHP's CVS server uses pserver authentication,
which isn't encrypted. While that's not great in general, I know
there are people who are concerned about sending passwords in the
clear while on an open network like the one here at the hotel.
So, here are some pointers on getting your SSH connection to go
through an SSH tunnel...
Edit your .cvspass, which you'll find in your home directory.
Copy the entry for cvs.php.net and change the host name to localhost:
# original
/1 :pserver:danielc@cvs.php.net:2401/repository .....
# copy
/1 :pserver:danielc@localhost:2401/repository .....
Edit your SSH terminal's port forwarding options. I use SecureCRT,
so here's how to do it there. Edit the session options and put
the following in the "Port Forwarding" section, add or edit an entry:
Local:
Port 2401
Remote:
"Destination host is different from the SSH server."
Hostname: cvs.php.net
Port: 2401
But if you're using openssh, et al, I THINK the command would be
the following:
ssh -L 2401:localhost:2401 danielc@cvs.php.net
[If that's not the exact syntax, I hope someone will correct me.]
Then do a fresh checkout of the directories/packages you want to
work on.
cvs -d :pserver:danielc@cvs.php.net:/repository co pear/DB
Enjoy,
