Hello Greg,

Not everyone has the ability to run php scripts on the server. The system should be as easy as possible for the end user (in our case the developer/deployer) - put a file up the server, and that's it. No need to install additional software on the HTTP, just one small file. For the case of the php-gtk programs, the version checking on client side is not such a problem as the resources are available - we've got a GUI-capable client. Regards/MfG, Christian Weiske -- XMMS is playing now: Evanescence - My Last BreathPEAR itself uses XML-RPC for requesting/publishing versioning information, but that needs a server-side xml-rpc program running (php script or so) - I think that's too much outlay. If you want any dependency tracking at all, you will need some complexity. Why re-invent the wheel when PEAR already does it? In terms of the server-side xml-rpc, that's a temporary drawback. When PEAR 1.4.0 comes out, I will also release a server that is easily installable.
