A storage layer would be an optional datasource for the feed.
In the application I am working on - there is a need for information to be
derived from the database.
But if you think it isn't worth the effort..

I wouldnt force the use of any storage layer at all.
To be honest in my opinion it seems to be like this is more of a sample
of how to use PEAR. Which is obviously not a bad thing!
However it seems to me like its going to end up being just a few lines
of glue code with probably just as much config code. Turning this into a
package itself is likely to be less flexibile or create too much overhead.
