Hi all,

This discusses some of the changes I've made to dependencies based on problems encountered in the past, and describes the way that they work in 1.4.0. If you want to know how things will work in package.xml 2.0, read on. There is so much new information, I've decided to split things into two chunks, the second post will be soon.
While blogging, I discovered a logic bug in the <subpackage> dependency type, but I also have a good idea of how to fix it.
