I have no idea. It would be kind of good if I had some idea, as I have been known to fix things from time to time. Wez, and all others, I have made some HUGE changes to the way pecl works in PEAR 1.4.0. Please get off your respective couches and look at them before it is too late and PEAR 1.4.0 is out the door. For one thing, you need to decide whether you want PECL to be a separate channel in the next week. There is no more leeway. Here are some reasons you need to look at PEAR and decide about channels: 1) the PEAR installer comes with a validator that is very strict - versions must be x.y.z, stable versions may not start with 0, beta/alpha versions must have a postfix (1.0 can't be beta) I know pecl is much looser about these requirements, and would benefit from having its own validation system. 2) I've already separated pear and pecl into two commands, so that extensions can be installed properly. 3) PEAR 1.4.0 supports binary packages. I've had zero feedback on this feature, how it is implemented, etc. Here's the thing. If you want PECL packages to be installed differently, that would be fine, you can rewrite everything to use Wez's pickle tool (or whatever tool of choice makes sense), or you can get in gear and make sure PEAR works for PECL as well as it works for PEAR. Thanks, Greg
