Jamie Alessio <Jamie.Alessio@ucop.edu>, a few weeks ago, developped such an
element. You can find the discussion about it in the archives. Here are the
links to his code and example:

If you can come up with improvements and the will to maintain such a package in
PEAR, you could propose it as a subpackage for HTML_QuickForm.
