Your proposal sounds like a great idea ... however, it also sounds a lot like DB_Table, DB_QueryTool and DB_DataObject. Of those, DB_Table sounds the most similar. Perhaps you can review those packages and see how the tricks you've learned working on your Perl version can be applied to the existing packages.
