The problem is this: Have a user needing packages X, Y and Z. X has two versions with incompatible APIs, v1.0 and v2.0. Both Y and Z depend on X. Y depends on X version 1. Z depends on X version 2. How can you install all the packages?
I say that the package maintainer for Y needs to get off his/her lazy ass and update their code or the QA team needs to. If version 2 of X is non-stable and Z depends on it, then Z should be non-stable as well. Afterall, how can a stable package rely on non-stable code? --Joe
