Sounds rather interesting, alright so let me point out what has to be done basically.
- Move from flat file logic to somethign else.
- Make the error handling much more reliable
- Maybe move from DOMD* to xmlwriter if possible (Did not study this case yet - no idea if possible)
- Get together and discuss about it :)
I might be ready to give a little more time to it if I get someone that is really serious about it.
Let me know what you think

The reason for that is: I have no more time to work on this right now, I use it and it works but still from flat files and this is very ugly, and with my company and other pear packages, I have no time. This is rather unfortunate. PEAR could really use this package. I could really use this package. If you are not able to maintain it now, I am volunteering my services to get it to initial release.
