# pear package package[2].xml meaning it will check dependencies, files ... specified in the xml then build the .tgz will auto-recoknize v1 or v2 package.xml files, you can even enter both on command line also propose you to tag the files in cvs (pear at least) look # pear help package That does not , normally, depends on your php / pear version if it's modern enough.
