What about doing a pearinfo() function that will give "an easy to use" way to know the
status of a PEAR installation ?
I just put the idea in the attached file (Pearinfo.php). You can see a snapshot of what it can give
(and the source code) at : http://pear.blavet.net
Today the information is available through the 'pear list-installed' script.
The function will give the ability for a user to know what he can use from pear (which package/which
version), when he does not have access to the web/php/pear configuration and is only hosted on the
server.
And a question : Why is there not an entry in the php.ini file for pear ?
Something like :
[PEAR]
install_path=/php4/pear
pear_doc=/php4/doc
