Hi,
For example MDB2_Driver_oci8 has a dependency on ext/oci8. However only recently has this extension worked reliably for all aspects of my package. This means that I should probably put a dependency on the latest released version of the pecl package. Then again I think its safe to assume that most users will instead be using the latest bundled version.
So what should I do?
- Should I just put a note in the package?
- Do I need to use package2.xml to specify all the various recommended and optional stuff?
- Should users be told to register their specific version of their oci8 extension using:
pecl install --register-only oci8
But can you define a version like that? And how do users find out the version bundled with a PHP release?
All in all I think its all not really perfect.
I guess the only perfect solution would be if every extension in PHP has a version number of its own that is automatically registered during install or something like that ..
I guess this however is more a question for pecl/internals ..
regards,
Lukas
