The new XML syntax for MDB2_Schema is defined here: http://oss.backendmedia.com/MDB2/MDB2_Schema This approach brings to MDB2_Schema the ability to handle UPDATEs and DELETEs. This is not the final version as there are some elements not finished yet (<function> is one of them). By the other hand we have not yet addressed in the current syntax the ability to control the order in which DDL changes and DML commands are issued (like do this update before doing DDL on this table, or do this update after doing the DDL on this table). Suggestions and comments are always welcome. In case some people are overwhelmed by the SQL lingo: DDL = data definition language which includes statements like CREATE, DROP, ALTER DML = data manipulation language which includes statements like INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE What Igor is proposing here is really a huge leap forward for MDB2_Schema. Its still not the entire leap that we hope to achieve in the end (this would indeed include the ability to better control the order in which DDL and DML statements are executed). However it will already cover a large array of situations people will encounter when writing update scripts. Getting feedback now is critical in order to ensure that the syntax has no issues and is easy to grasp. If you prefer to continue hand editing update scripts for every RDBMS you support then ignore this message. Everybody else should have a look. regards, Lukas
