The problem is that the PEAR installer supports replacements at install time and one of these replacements is the data dir. When installed the scripts get an absolute path to the data dir. If the package isn't smart enough to have a fallback it will fail to find its data. Thanks for clarification. So unless package rely on paths during runtime from pear configuration files there's no way/sense to automate relocation.
Well...you could always change the data_dir in your config and reinstall all packages, then copy those..... Or just do a search and replace (File_SearchReplace) on all of the installed PHP files for the old data_dir and replace it with the new one. Or just search the package.xml of all installed packages, look for replacements, and handle them specially. -- Justin Patrin
