Hi everyone,
As expected, we're in the final stages of testing a PEAR-installable
pearweb. As such, I just released a beta version of the new "pearweb"
package at pear.php.net. This package does not follow our naming
conventions simply because it's not really intended to be installed
anywhere except at pear.php.net and on our local development/testing
machines.
As such, would you please install and test the pearweb package? Those
of you with running installs, simply "pear upgrade pearweb-beta"
Others can install and run the post-install script.
Note that the post-install script is pretty much only for development
machines to ease installation. On the live server, we'll always
hand-update the httpd.conf and the database. Unless things change later :).
This change will free us to start actively re-factoring the website, and
will allow developing new features in CVS and in unstable releases as
well, as the cron job will only upgrade to stable versions of the
pearweb package (as it should!).
Thanks for your work, those of you who have volunteered. Now the *real*
fun begins.
As we start discussing changing the political structure of PEAR, the
first order of business will be designing some kind of voting system
where one can choose between several things, rather than a simple +1/-1
system. Otherwise, I predict mayhem will ensue. Once we have something
like this designed, it will be possible to have a referendum on the
political structure of PEAR, and how best to continue doing business.
Please refrain from replying to this message unless it pertains to the
pearweb package. All political discussions should start new threads
(please :).
Thanks,
Greg
