Which is another great reason why it should be included in PEAR. If something happens so that the developer can no longer continue developing the package, there might be someone else in the community who could help out or even take over. Andreas Rehm wrote:

Does anybody here know or have contact with Vadim Tkachenko who maintains the PHPExcelReader project in sourceforge (which is the basis for the proposal Spreadsheet_Excel_Reader)? I'd love to see this project move from proposal to an actual package and to see further development and bug fixing kick off. The package has been a proposal for about 3 years now, and it seemed that the coding standards were all fixed up. If it means someone volunteering to help and complete any tasks needed to prepare the package, I would put my hand up, but I'm having trouble getting in contact with him.
