Hi all, Unfortunately, we have been getting an inordinate volume of trackback spam as well as the valid trackbacks. I have disabled trackbacks for all packages. You can still re-enable them for your package, but I will remove the feature entirely from pearweb if I see a single spam trackback on the admin page that is older than 1 week. This annoying "feature" will need to be replaced by something more community-based, such as user notes for packages. David Coallier is working on user notes for the PEAR manual (right David?), and the code may be adaptable to the package pages. Those of you who are clamoring for a wiki per-package or a forum per-package will need to demonstrate that code is possible that eliminates spam without requiring extensive developer intervention, as we have demonstrated clearly that this is not a model that works for PEAR. I am intrigued by the possibility of an OpenID-based authentication system for PEAR, this coupled with a CAPTCHA verifier for OpenID could allow us to outsource spam prevention, this might ultimately be a solution. See Wez Furlong's recent blog entries for details. Greg
