Hi,
It may mean that we'll need an automatic password reset feature for
people forgetting their passwords, but the primary benefits are:
1) credit for bugs - you can assign a bug to the person who supplied the
"winning" patch even if they aren't a dev
2) no more email addresses displayed in the bug tracker
I'm sure we could also consider some kind of expiration policy if it is
necessary. Eventually, this will greatly simplify the queries in the
bug tracker, which will speed up the webserver immensely as our bug
tracker takes most of the web traffic atm.
Of course, if the thing is a disaster, it will be reverted, but I doubt
it will be that bad :)
