The installer is designed to integrate with RPM and other package
systems. Roughly, what you would do is have the package.tgz file as
source, install it with "pear -d
php_dir=/var/tmp/rpminstallroot/usr/share/pear install package.tgz",
package it again with RPM and, use "pear install -r package" in the
post-install script and "pear uninstall -r package" in the
post-uninstall script.
