Firstly, let me apologize for the delay in this proposal for the
Services_Shipping package and it's sub-package drivers, such as
Services_Shipping_UPS. There is going to be a delay in the release of these
drivers, which I will explain in this message.
The Services_Shipping package is being developed by myself at Santiance
Corporation. Currently we are planning on releasing the sources as BSD.
Otherwise we wanted to go with AGPL, since it appears LGPL doesn't offer
sufficent protection in the network domain.
If anyone is opposed to this license and have a reason why it should be a
different license, please respond to this message, contact me via my PEAR
information, or respond to kris@santiance.com with the heading
"Services_Shipping LICENSE". You may see the license.txt file at
http://www.santiance.com/open/Services_Shipping/license.txt
.
The "homepage" for this package has been setup as
http://www.santiance.com/open/Services_Shipping
This gives a rundown of how to get the package. These instructions may not
work currently as the PEAR channel is being setup. In particular I included
some generic PEAR installation info, if this is wrong please correct me. You
may read a user manual I am working on at
http://www.santiance.com/open/Services_Shipping/man.pdf
After reviewing some information about the UPS OnLine Tools it appears that
our options of releasing the source may be complicated. We are committed to
the open development of shipping tools and e-commerce solutions, but we
can't violate any existing agreements. In particular, the "UPS Technology
Agreement" (UTA) says in specific we may not distribute any product. If
anyone has experience with this agreement, advice is wanted, but I also
understand that NOBODY HERE IS A LAWYER!
So, for the time being the abstract driver will be available in the PEAR
proposal.
Cheers,
Kristopher Ives

I am very disappointed in the UPS agreement and would advise anyone who will
be working with this carrier to evaluate the license. This agreement
requires that UPS has some degree of control over your source code. If
anyone has any information about this PLEASE respond or contact me.
