How are they bogus if they're clearly outlined in the coding standards to begin with?
Oh, now I see. The sample file page http://pear.php.net/manual/en/standards.sample.php in the PEAR manual indeed states:
Please take note of the vertical and horizontal spacing. They are part of the standard.
The problem is, spacing there looks quite arbitrary: the tag comments are aligned in the class and file docblock, but are not aligned in function docblocks, etc. I think I'll propose an RFC for removing this phrase from the coding standards. This will allow us to dramatically improve code quality by dramatically reducing the number of coding standards violations!
