Hello,
Amazon's Simple Queue Service [1] (SQS) provides a scalable distributed
queue. SQS is helpful for batching up large, distributed jobs (like
image or video processing) or for linking together different systems.
Using SQS, you can distribute jobs between any number of different
systems (Amazon EC2 images, systems in a local cluster, the computer in
your basement, etc..).
The PEAR proposal Services_Amazon_SQS [2] covers the full API, wrapping
it in easy-to-use objects. The code is adapted with permission from
simple-aws [3] for inclusion in PEAR.
A command-line tool (written in PHP) for working with queues is also
provided. It allows listing, creating and deleting queues.
Services_Amazon_SQS makes use of the new Crypt_HMAC2 and HTTP_Request2
packages. It's also been successfully used on a silverorange project to
manage the processing of hundreds of thousands of images.
Voting ends on Thursday, please vote for this package to be included in
PEAR :)
Thanks,
Mike
