Hello,
I am the developer of Services_Akismet. When HTTP_Request2 was released,
a feature request to use it in Services_Akismet was opened [1]. As
excited as I am about using it in Services_Akismet, there is a bit of a
problem.
Services_Akismet is a stable package and using HTTP_Request2 would
necessitate changing the API (presumably for the better). Because
Services_Akismet already contains a poor-man's implementation of
HTTP_Request2, I have a few options:
1.) Break BC, but only for people who bothered to use HTTP backend
abstraction in the current stable package.
2.) Add HTTP_Request2 as a backend to Services_Akismet's HTTP
abstraction.
3.) Release Services_Akismet2 with a slightly cleaned-up API and remove
the duplicated HTTP code.
Of the three, I'd really hate to do #2 as I don't feel HTTP abstraction
belongs in Services_Akismet anymore. For either #1 or #3 I already have
the code completed. I'm looking for opinions from the PEAR community as
to which approach is best.
Season's greetings,
Mike
