You're right Martin, the problem is from PHP 4.1.2 side under windows.
I found this :

It is exactly what happen with me, sessions are broken under windows and 4.1.2 when register_globals is off (the new recommended setting)
A very simple test shows it :

<?php
session_start();
$me= 'luc';
session_register ('me');
?>
=========== Broken ===========
<?php
session_start();
$_SESSION['me']='luc';
?>
