I'm going to gracefully bow out. With the start of CrashCorp, I'm going to be entirely too busy to actively participate in PEAR. I've also been flirting with unspeakable languages, such as Python. ;)
I'll throw my hat into the ring as well.. A little about me for anyone interested... As a PEAR developer, I'm a lead on 5 packages. As a lead developer at Digg, I've been an advocate of getting more of our internal code released through PEAR. We have several packages coming up in the future, including a new OpenID package (for our upcoming relying party support), Services_Solr (which we use for digg's search), and a few others. We have a vested interest in PEAR, and I'd like to do what I can to help move it forward. Some of the things that most interest me, and which I would be happy to help contribute to are: * Help drive a new website design, and possibly get some design support from Digg * Make it easier to participate in PEAR (help fix PEPr problems, work more with new developers, etc) * Help out with the Chiara PEAR server (we've had a number of issues with it, and I have some ideas for improving it) * Encourage more people to distribute applications through their own channels * Make PEAR easier to use for private distribution * Help developers write better tests (I'd be happy to contribute documentation on this)
I've known Bill Shupp for, at least, four years now. In fact, I recruited him to Digg and couldn't be happier with his code and performance at Digg. Not only has Bill taken lead of one of our more stressed teams (Tools and Integration at Digg oversees all 3rd party integration, such as our Facebook Connect integration, and our entire API), but he's also consistently delivering top notch code that exhibits the best practices that PEAR promotes. One of the things I think sets Bill apart is that he has substantial systems background. He's even spent considerable time giving back to the FOSS community for non-PHP projects, such as Qmail. Huge +1 from me. --Joe
