IMHO, there's no need to rush a 1.0 release. :-)
The beauty of pre-1.0 code is that you can break BC whenever you feel like it.
So here are some things you could do:
* move PHP5 (e.g. work with visibility, migrate global constants into
the class)
* follow the one class-perr-file rule (exception into seperate file)
* add MDB2 as an dependency to package.xml
* remove the hard dependency to MDB2 in your __construct() and allow DI
* maybe optionally support more DBALs (e.g. Doctrine)
* add manufacturer lists and distribute them with your package (e.g.
role="data", etc.)
* clean-up phpdoc code (e.g. @version is 1.0, but the package is 0.1.5, etc.)
* clean-up API: rename check() to isValid(), rename format() to
getFormatted() (or something like that)
* less static methods
* refactor control-flow in findVendor()
* add some tests (!) to demonstrate that the validation works (no
idea about edge-cases)
* add some examples ("How to use Net_MAC?")
Cheers,
Till
