Aha, a very nice solution for PHP 5.2. This is also very easy to do with PHP 5.3 and pyrus, the next generation pear installer — http://pear.php.net/manual/en/pyrus.php I usually create a lib dir for each new project, then simply install the packages needed: mkdir lib php pyrus.phar ./lib install pear/Net_URL Each lib dir is a sandboxed registry (just like the pear -c …), except it requires no setup, is portable, and can be committed to a repository. You can then make a checkout or clone on another machine, and packages be upgraded without worrying about the paths: php pyrus.phar ./lib upgrade pear/Net_URL -- Brett Bieber
