The change from PEAR to Pear was my initiative in the design, and for
the reasons Helgi mentioned. As a bonus, Proper Words look nicer in text
than ACRONYMS. That said, it's a relatively small design element and I
don't mind much if we stick with the ACRONYM version.
I tried to find examples of other projects that changed from an acronym
to a word and could only find Gaim (now Pidgin). They changed mostly for
legal reasons which do not apply to PEAR. I though this sort of change
was more common in open-source projects, but I haven't been able to find
evidence to back it up.
Lastly, I'd like to keep the logo all lower-case because it looks good.
It's a graphical element so I think we have the flexibility to change
case here.
Cheers,
Mike
