Hello all, With PHP_CompatInfo 2 (until RC2) and its CLI, I've tried to implement concept of subcommand with ezConsoleInput. It was hard, and not marvellous. I recommand Console_CommandLine : it's a Jewel :) If you have in mind to add a CLI to your application. Don't hesitate and choose Console_CommandLine. You don't have to regret it. Laurent Laville See for example the changes I've applied to the new CLI of PHPCI 2 (future RC3) https://github.com/llaville/php-compat-info/commit/543b8de6c1c6944fa57510c14eec36d22b96afda
Salut Laurent, glad to hear it was useful for you ! thanks for the feedback.
Hi Helgi,
Glad to hear it's useful for more people; Does this mean we are going to see the PEAR1 and PEAR2 version kept in sync and further development? :-D
Well, unfortunately having two package versions to maintain is not ideal :( That said, it should not be too hard to sync the PEAR2 version with the current code (the PEAR1 version has not changed that much).
Had a look at the code the other day, pretty nice; Would have loved using it in PEAR, am currently writing some messy messy ARGV like parsing code of strings, not fun! :P
Parsing options and arguments correctly is a hard task ;) I encourage you to not reinvent the wheel.
We are using it / are planning on using it in Pyrus but well... it seemed somewhat dead for the longest time (the PEAR2 version anyway), much so that a person forked Pyrus on github and is implementing Symfony Console and is trying to convince us to use that ;-) - Helgi
Pyrus already uses it since nearly two years AFAIK. I don't know Symfony Console, to be honest I doubt it is as stable/feature full/extensible as Console_CommandLine, of course I could be wrong... The project is certainly not dead, the thing is: - It is pretty stable (and quite popular) now, and there's no bugs, no feature requests (actually there's 2 in the bugtracker, but they're somewhat "wontfix" ones) - I'm currently busy with a ton of Django projects and not using PHP anymore (though this could happen again...), hence my little activity I'd be OK to leave the PEAR1 version as is, and only commit security/important fixes, but I don't think I'll have the necessary time to maintain the PEAR2 version correctly, if one you guys want and has time to maintain it feel free to do so and ping me if the code doesn't speak by itself. -- David
