Has anyone worked on this? Does it exist somewhere already?
I am about to work on this and wanted to know if I'd be recreating the wheel,
first of all. Second, the reason I will be creating this:
* I have to work with Access Databases alot. (Trust me, I am moaning and
groaning the whole time as well. The company has a legacy system they want to
tack a Web Front end on.)
* These Databases can reside in numerous locations on the harddrive. (The 1.2
gig limitation got to them, so they had the bright idea of seperating the data
into multiple files.
Now, a technical question:
Seeing as Access is not an *Actual* database system. It does not allow you to
pass an ID into an AutoNumber field, and the table actually use it. (At least,
that is how I remember it. I may be wrong on this. I'll test with this on monday)
This breaks the nextID() syntax. I was wondering why this was deemed nesecary.
Could we create a function called lastID()? This would use the AutoNumber type
fields of the database, which you could then use @@identity or LAST_INSERT_ID()
or some other means to retrieve the information for inserting into other tables.
