You're not supposed to do that, because they would not be installed
properly. The only supported way of using PEAR packages is installing
the .tgz files. There'll be an "upgrade-all" command shortly that you
can run from cron to update everything automatically if you wish to do
that.
But anyway, with the current CVS version of the installer, you can do
this:
cd cvs/pear
cvs -q update -dP
for pkg in *; do
test -f $pkg/package.xml || continue
(cd $pkg && pear install -f package.xml)
done
The problem with this approach is that maintainers may change files
without changing the package.xml file (which is fine, because users are
supposed to install tarballs). So the file you think is Foo.php from
Foo 1.2 one day may suddenly have changed the next (without the version
number changing).
