Shouldn't the following line be in the init() function?
// find all included files
$string = preg_replace('#<!--\s+INCLUDE\s+(.*)\s+-->#ime',
"\$this->getFile('\\1')", $string);
It is at the bottom of getFile(), which allows recursion, but it is
never called on the main string so the recursion can never
start...
