Image_Transform: Detecting Image types

Hi, I've got problems with the NetPBM driver. NetPBM provides no method to detect image file type. How should I work it? 1) Make do with the very limited detection of GetImageSize - unsuitable really as Tiff support only added in 4.2, and no Bitmap support. 2) Use ImageMagick's convert library I can't examine the file extension because when processing uploaded files they are assigned a random name without the extension, and this is the situation I'm dealing with at the moment. Any suggestions?
