Can you expain how it differs from the current Auth, - eg. can it behave as a straight replacement eg. could these features be added to the current Auth Package?
or is it really just focused on File permisions?

this message is not about the PEAR::Auth package its about this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/auth This is an Auth package with a different concept than the PEAR::Auth. In short the big difference(s): - you can define the directorie(s)/file(s) that shall be protected and the Auth class takes care of protecting those usage example: // protect all files in '/myAppl' directory $options = array('protectRoot' => '/myAppl') ); $auth = Auth::setup( 'IMAP' , 'pop3/notls://alice.unix.vp:110' ,$options );OR $auth = Auth::setup( 'NIS' , 'nisdomain' , $options ); Installing works just like the PEAR::Auth package, you can install it using the pear installer (yippi), simply download the file from the 'Auth as PEAR package' section here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=46153 and install it like this:pear install Auth-1.2.tgz watch out that you dont call 'pear install Auth' if you want to try this Auth package, since that would install the PEAR::Auth package. The current doc is not the best it can get ... but it exists here http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/auth/Auth/README?rev=1.4&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup Please see the examples for checking how to use it. Watch out, it will write the package into the Auth-dir, so the PEAR::Auth and this one cant be used at the same time! I hope someone finds it useful (too) If there is a space for it within PEAR i would be glad to maintain it in there ...
