I've just written a php extension that retrieves bitrate, time and comments from Ogg Vorbis files using the C development libraries from http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/. I have them compiling under php4/ext/oggvorbis or as a standalone module using phpize. I'd like to eventually include a more fully functional version in pear/PECL/oggvorbis, if there is any interest, but I'm a little confused about the build system for PECL. Should I just continue to use phpize? There is a pearize, but it doesn't seem to build in the php4 code that I got from CVS. to build a pear package have a look at the xmms, bcompiler extensions - the file package.xml
the just run pear package and it should build a tarball. ready to upload to the release system.
For now, I'll put a tar.gz at http://www.broudy.net/php/. I haven't written tests or docs yet, but certainly would if it'll go into PECL. I'm assuming that PECL is the right place for it, not in the ext directory of php4. This is the first PHP extension I've written, any critiques would be appreciated. +1 from me :)
yes PECL is a good home for it..., you would have to fight the rabid dogs in php-dev to get it in ext :)
