Use this method, known to be the most portable ;-) :
# wget -qO- pear.php.net/go-pear | php -q

You do not have the exec permission to use 'pear', try
#su
#pear help

'pear' command actually does not support multiple installations. You can change the
config using 'pear config-set' for each hosts (a simple bash command can do it,
'pearhost1 list' for example).
