Hello, I am following up on my post from about a week ago regarding problems with mimePart.php when used in conjunction with qmail. My original findings suggested that HTML emails could not be reliably sent using $mail =& Mail::factory('mail'); as suggested by the online documentation (note: this way does work fine in sendmail). It DOES work ok with qmail with $mail =& Mail::factory('smtp');. I have now found that setting sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/qmail-inject this in php.ini sort of helps. More specifically, if you use this setting instead of qmail's sendmail wrapper, HTML email sent via $mail =& Mail::factory('mail'); work fine in Mozilla mail but do NOT display well in MS Outllook and Outlook Express (I have not tested this in Eudora). When I say that it does not display well, I mean characters/HTML are missing/corrupted. My initial theory would be that this is the result of the way mimePart.php encodes quoted-printable, but my theory should be heavily discounted given my limited knowledge of standards regarding mime email. Besides, if it is the result of an error in the encoding, then why does it work when sent via SMTP to localhost? This is horribly common when dealing with Outlook.. - When I did this on a few projects quite a while back, we bascially ended up composing the message in outlook, mozilla and PHP .. whatever, sending it to a mailbox. then examining the mailbox file (with things like hexdump) to discover the differences between the mails. If you find any specific differences with what was sent from the Mail package and what Outlook would send in a similar situation, send it to the list, I'm sure the mainteners (richard?) who know the code can probably change it. Regards Alan
Anyways, I just wanted to pass along my findings to those who maintain this source or those more knowledgable in this area who might be able to help those maintaining this source. Mike
