What about this: through a web interface - a maintainer can set a package to "unmaintained" -> a mail goes to pear-dev and pear-general "Package xyz is umaintained, if you are willing to maintain it go to pear.php.../MaintainMe.php?pacid=23" -> a db stores this note -> ummaintained packages can be viewed through a website on pearweb - Mister X can fill a form, that he is willing to maintain the package -> creates a mail for pear-dev -> discussion - if nobody after x (3?) months is willing to maintain it -> source will be deleted from cvs/manual
