I have written a patch to Config/Config/Container/IniFile.php to allow
storing of datatypes along with key/pair values. This doesnt break
backwards compatability. Adding a similar functionality to the other
storage types shouldnt be too much of a problem, although I havent looked
into it too deeply.
The reason I am doing this is I want an easy to configure frontend for
either web or gtk applications. To do this, you really need to know what
type of data it is (partly for choice of widget/partly for data validation).
At the moment I have just used the markers bool, string and numeric, but
this could easily be expanded to include multiple fixed results (such as
Male/Female of if defining a database type)
How do you guys feel about expanding this functionality to the other
containers, I should be able to do most of the work... I just need the
relevant number of +1's (how many do I need for this kind of thing? ;)
