I have no personal preference here, I´ll go for the majority´s decision.

a) If you don´t want to use PEAR::Auth itself but want to keep using the
existing user database, write a new Liveuser auth container that
makes use of the PEAR::Auth database structure. To do that, you can
simply copy the existing container and modify the queries accordingly.
b) If you want to keep using the PEAR::Auth class for authentication,
but want to add permission management via Liveuser, you simply don´t
use Liveuser´s LoginManager class, using the permission container
class directly instead.
All you´d need to do is make sure that there´s an entry in the table
"liveuser_perm_users" for each user that is in the PEAR::Auth user
table, so the permission container will know about them.
