I'm rather new to PHP, but an old hand at perl, DBI and web development.
I'd like to use a database-neutral class library for my code, but I've got a
couple of requirements:
I like the DBAL library that's part of phpBB2, but it's license is straight
GPL, and I intend to do some commercial development with this, so I need to
use code with either LGPL or BSD type license.
I've started using the PEAR DB class, but I'm not terribly happy with it-
There are too many different (but similiarly named) ways to access the
database, and their calling conventions are all different, and what's worse,
I need to look at different things to find out if a database error occurred.
I find myself going back to look at the documentation every time I write
something that calls the SQL database, to make sure I'm coding the call
directly. In contrast, I picked up the Perl DBI:: library and was using it
without difficulty in about 10 minutes.
Does anyone out there have a suggestion for other options?
Thanks
