I am in the process of upgrading the PHP on our network appliance product (http://www.net-itech.com/america/products/pd_products.htm) from 4.2.0 to 4.3.4, and it seems that a file named Crypt/HCEMD5.php (which used to be in the "pear" directory of the PHP distribution and is needed by Horde, apparently) has gone missing at version 4.3.0.
HCEMD5.php is no more needed by Horde 2.2.x (since March 2003).
Yes, but we have a heavily customized version of Horde that is based on an older version that does need it. Did that file just disappear with no compatible replacement whatsoever? It turns out that this seems to be the only "completely gone" file needed by Horde, so managed to get things going by installing a few packages from PEAR (acceptable) and stealing the missing file from the PHP 4.2.3 distribution (not quite acceptable). I'd point out that this massive change (moving things around and losing a file that one of the biggest PHP user needed) occurred without the slightest mention in the release notes (http://www.php.net/release_4_3_0.php) or the changelog. As far as I can figure out from googling around, CVS-ing around and browsing the php.net/pear.php.net, this "just happened". -- Pierre Phaneuf Mad Scientist, NITI R&D
