I'd like to show the form again when it is validated but without the buttons. Is it possible to remove groups from the form? Removing an element works.

Reading the QuickForm source it seems to me that groups are added also as any other quickform elements. This means you can remove a group using removeElement, passing the group name as a parameter. According to your example element names: $form->removeElement('actions');
